FEATURED ARTIST: TARA JOHNSTON
I've been making art for as long as I can remember, and I wake up every day excited to create. A Texan girl through and through, I’ve made a home here in Austin and spend most of my days completely immersed in my work. Lettering art is especially meaningful to me, and I love seeing how other people relate to it. After painting my first mural, I knew I'd found my medium: bright colors, positive messages, and fun designs reflect my quirky personality, and I love that what I make helps people feel better.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, I have been an Austin resident for thirteen years. Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, my family and I emigrated to the USA when I was eleven years old. I didn't know a word of english and fitting in was difficult at first. Twenty something years later I now explore my identity as a Venezuelan living in the US through my art. Murals are a fantastic way to create art that can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone. It doesn't have to hang in a gallery, you don't have to go to an art opening to enjoy it. It is out there for all to see, no matter what color your skin is or how much money you have in the bank. It is art for the masses.
